Dave Chappelle at the Paramount Theater
Can I just say my abs still hurt from laughing? The dj they had spinning pre show and during the intermission was fabulous, I wish we could get him to do a residency here in Austin. He'd be great for a Highball 90's dance party. Everywhere I looked people were dancing in their seats. Paul, the opener was hilarious. I see a bright future for him, I wish I would've caught his whole name. It's not on the ticket either and I haven't really found any articles on the show from last night just yet. Dave was great! Until the ass hat hecklers started to ruin everything :( He was obviously shaken by it and you could tell he was uncomfortable being up there. Some guy named Greg got caught filming him 11 min into the show. He was in the first few rows so it was prob obvious. He then had the gaul to lie to Dave about it. Dave requested the phone and asked him why he had lied. O sorry I forgot to mention the theater was practically plastered with signage requesting that no texting, tweeting, talking, ect, filming or photographs be taken during the show and that the audience refrain from heckling. If one broke said regulations you ass would get kicked out no apologies no refund. Seriously? that is really just requesting respect from the audience. Not just for the performer but for the fellow audience members. As Dave put it "I get paid to sing even if you can't hear me." Anyway back to Greg, Dave was a peach about it and told them to let him stay after security pulled him from his seat. Dave even asked the stage crew to please charge Greg's phone since it was almost dead. You would think after this people would behave. How gravely mistaken I was! People were just running their mouths like I had just paid THEM $61 plus drinks/parking to see them! About 30-45 min in it there was some awkwardness in the room from all of the shouting and disrespect from some of the audience members. I was shooting dagger eyes all night. Seeing Dave back up there was enough for me but despite my efforts to not let them ruin the show they most def took away from it. After a few audience members told other ppl to shut up, Dave slowly segued into some more jokes. He still did a great job considering the audience he was given. I think everyone was just so excited to see him they couldn't control themselves? He cancelled his El Paso show early this morning. Fingers crossed the dick wad hecklers at the Austin show didn't make that happen. I really hope Dave gets back on it and keeps touring and that he can fill his void. He's a great guy and a bang up comedian. All in all I would do it again.

It got so bad at one point a few people walked out :( I don't think dave could see them though. They were sitting in the nose bleed section and his lights are pretty bright. I too am team kick the drunk obnoxious ass holes out. During the Dia de Los Toadies 2010 edition there was this increda drunk guy. He kept mouthing off and getting grabby with the ladies and trying to hoard the joints that were being passed around (i don't smoke but i still understand that that's not cool). I was at the front by my self (lame friends were too tired to stand up anymore) and he started to pull me around and just being a dick. I'm a whopping 4 ft 10-11 inches and all though I'm not the trimmest lady out there by a looooooooooong shot it's still pretty easy for a huge 6 ft 3 in dude who's a total meat head to toss me around who has additional drunk strength. Luckily the equally huge dudes around me came to my rescue and moved me away from him. I also had a strange encounter with a dude that was on something at the Bright Eyes show during sxsw 2011, he kept trying to crowd surf. I felt it was a little out of place but his constant shouting and general out of place-ness "I'm like 105649846501650146 levels more fucked up than anyone else here" was the most annoying part.

hecklers ruin so much. i don't know if they are trying to be cool or they just suck at life. i also don't like drunks at shows. i go/pay to see a performance, not have it ruined by some obnoxious loser.
wish I could of seen Dave. I'm a fan.

Jealous you got to see him! I had to pass on his Dallas show due to low funds....I absolutely hate it when people ruin a show though. Had a similar experience at a Radiohead show this year. The people behind us would not stop talking. Why pay to go to a show just to ruin it? If you just want to talk to your friends, save your money and go to a bar or restaurant...or stay at home.

I've always wanted to see Dave live, so I'm definitely jealous. It does sound like the hecklers were more of a problem than usual, however, and that would have royally pissed me off in this case. I really hope that the other cancellation had nothing to do with the Austin show: it would suck if Dave let a couple idiots psyche him out and ruin this tour for him. Would love to see this turn into something bigger, but I know how that's gone in the past.
