Did y'all hear about this bullshit?

Hip hop artist slaps female photographer at Voodoo music festival

Odd Future played Voodoo fest in New Orleans this weekend, and were apparently complete assholes to the photogs there... They punched and kicked at cameras (breaking a few, and y'all, that shit ain't cheap), and then slapped a female photog to the ground. These photogs were just in the photo pit, doing their fucking jobs. The job of a concert photographer does not include this. I have shot punk shows before where I was dodging elbows and arms and heads from the mosh, but I have never been attacked from the stage.

This shit is not cool, and as a female photog myself there is no way in hell I'm attending their set on Sunday. I hate to discourage anyone from anything at Fun Fun Fun, but maybe everyone should hit the other stages that night to show these idiots that this stuff is not fucking ok.

The photogs were never asked to leave the pit. Bands always have the right before any show to say 'no photographers', and bands have exercised that right before... Odd Future didn't.

"There simply is no truth to the accusation floating around the internet. It’s no secret that Odd Future has a love/hate relationship with photographers at shows simply because sometimes they are given access the group wishes their fans would have instead. After telling the photographers to clear out multiple times (as they've done before) Vyron (Leftbrain) took a swipe at a few cameras, NOT people. To manipulate the situation to insinuate an attack on a woman specifically is careless and manipulative."

that's Odd Future's response. Not, "the band gets mad that photographers have access to them which they wish their fans had."

I like Odd Future's music. This shit isn't cool but it doesn't make me want to see them less.

Perhaps you've already read Steve Albini's take on Odd Future?

Now Albini has a history of saying reactionary stuff that I don't agree with but the dude isn't a dummy and often has great insight and I think his blog on O.F. is clear-eyed. Also had to laugh at O.F.'s publicist's idea of damage control is saying that the band gets mad that photographers have access to them which they wish their fans had. Well, it's pretty f-in easy for a band to be accessible to fans.

WOW! That is so disrespectful. If you ask me the photographers are doing the artist a favor by shooting their act that will possibly be published, gifting them publicity for their benefit. It’s not like they’re stalking them at dinner or being intrusive. What a bunch of DBags!

Agreed, too much ego for some acts.

Fuck that. I share Hi Times' sentiment. By watching these guys perform, you support them and their actions. See someone else instead.

I saw the same hostility toward photographers at SXSW...although not directed toward women.
