what i'm listening to this week
well i guess, "what i'm listening to this week, that you wouldn't have assumed"...
this will be short and sweet, just spreading what i think is some good shiz.
fool's gold- "narrow sun"
fool's gold is a band from los angeles that i just barely got into, when i noticed them on the aclfest lineup, and decided to check them out. a lot of things i read described them as "indie rock, with a world music tinge". you know what i'm gonna say.... it's like local natives, yeasayer, and foals had a 3-way butt baby.
shannon and the clams- "tired of being bad"
shannon and the clams- "sleep talk"
love love love this oakland, ca band. it's that throwback beachy pop sound i like, but these guys take the sound waaaaaaaay back- like the beach boys and the ronettes. the harder stuff on the record sounds similar to hunx & his punx, or nobunny. but i like this way more. they'll be playing a show at red 7 on oct 28th, but it will be devo covers, apparently.
gold leaves- "the ornament"
okay yeah, this is my, "yeah i'm listening to this- so what??" pick for the week. it's like a palette cleanser, like coffee beans at a perfume counter. if you like stuff like the fruit bats and the moondoggies, you'll prolly dig this, too. seattle-based group, folk/psych sound.
that's it, have a nice week, everybody :)
