Uglydolls are a collection of designer toys created by independent toy designers David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim. Uglydolls were first released in 2002, and are distinguished by an aesthetic that balances traditional cuteness with perceived ugliness. In 2006, Uglydolls were awarded the Specialty Toy of the Year award by the Toy Industry of America.[1]
It all started when every letter that David Horvath sent to Sun-Min Kim (they were friends that lived in different countries.) had a little cartoon of Wage at the bottom of the letter saying "I miss You" next to it. As a surprise gift Sun-Min sewed a doll of Wage, and sent it to David in the mail. They made some more, and the uglydolls quickly became popular.
