Melvins
Just picked up tickets for the Melvins show in Austin on the 19th at Mohawks. Stoked for the show, this is part of their 51 states in 51 days (they're counting DC as a state) world record setting tour. This will be the Melvins Lite lineup with Trevor Dunn playing stand up bass, and I'm very interested to see how that dynamic works on their older tracks. Should be interesting. The new album Freak Puke includes this lineup and I like it a lot.
I saw the regular lineup with two drummers and bass player from Big Business in Dallas back in May and as always was blown away. I've seen them 5 times now and never been disappointed. It's crazy to think that the first time I saw them was in 1995 opening for NIN. Where the fuck does the time go?
They've been doing a tour diary for SPIN which I read yesterday and it's a very entertaining read. Here's a link to it if you want to check it out.

In one entry they talk about the first time they played in Lawrence, KS which was my stomping grounds for about 10 years, at this little club in a cornfield called the Outhouse. A ton of amazing bands came through there in the 80's and 90's. The Outhouse still exists, in the middle of field but it's now a strip club.
Any other Austin FFF'ers going to this show? It's gonna be a blast!!

My 23rd & 24th (I may be losing count at this point...) Melvins shows were in Bellingham last July, and last month in Seattle, with the Melvins Lite lineup. I love this concept, Buzzo on an Electric Guitar Co. aluminum guitar, Dale on a 1940s kit & Trevor "A Woman's Work Is Never" Dunn on Standup Bass (the album parts are recorded un-amped!) and it just SHREDS. It really isn't light at all, just LITE! Trevor Dunn is definitely the highlight if you've seen 'em a bunch, he just nerds out, at one point he even laid down and played it on his back (at one point he just relaxed with the bass lying on him, so hilarious with his school boy outfit and taped glasses).
ENJOY THE SHOW!!!! (who's opening?)
