New Jimmy Cliff
So the new Jimmy Cliff album is out and I have to say Tim Armstrong did a great job of getting the best out of him. This is the best stuff he has done since the "Harder They Come" days and while a couple of these songs were on his EP a year ago its still just very refreshing to hear who I consider the Jamaican Marvin Gaye lay it down like there is no tomorrow. Great record and great record for the summer!

I find myself listening to a lot more pop/light material over the summer. For some reason, metal and punk (unless it's pop-punk) don't appeal to me as much when it's this hot out. Come winter, however, I'm all about the hard-charging guitars and adrenaline.

Just finished listening to the album and you're absolutely right, Jesse: this is easily Cliff's best album since "Harder They Come!" There are no bum tracks here at all, Cliff's voice sounds unearthly and "Ruby Soho," "Guns of Brixton" and "One More" are so amazing that I had to spin them all twice in a row. This is definitely Cliff's Johnny Cash-esque comeback. Kudos to Tim for letting the tracks breathe and for knowing when to bring the wall of sound and when to ease back. I absolutely love this and will have to buy a copy when I get some money. Thanks for the heads-up, Jesse!

ahhh yeah, i'm going to have to listen to this soon! I heard the guns of brixton cover a while back, it was great! Jimmy Cliff is a legend! I was actually in the mood to watch the harder they come the other night, but i couldn't find my digital video disc!

I've been waiting for this to come out! This has a cover of Rancid's "Ruby Soho" on it, right? I caught Cliff and Armstrong's performance at Coachella this year during the live stream and thought Cliff sounded amazing. I was actually secretly hoping to have them both on the bill this year: that would certainly have chilled-out the Orange Stage!
