This year so far
As we approach the middle of the year I would like to say that I have not found that album where I am like â??This will compete for the annual top ten number one spot in my collectionâ??. There have been some really good albums in 2012 but lack that blown away factor. I say this on the eve of burning through the new Best Coast album. I really like the album it is more of the same but in a good way. I was not too impressed with Sleigh Bells sophomore attempt but I have cycled through the Best Coast album a few times and enjoy it.

Here is a list of the 2012 albums in my rotation:
Grimes â?? â??Visionsâ??
Tanlines â?? â??Mixed Emotionsâ??
Policia â?? â??Give You the Ghostâ??
First Aid Kit â?? â??The Lionâ??s Roarâ??
Jack White â?? â??Blunderbussâ??
Best Coast â?? â??The Only Placeâ??
Cloud Nothings â?? â??Attack On Memoryâ??
Trampled By Turtles - â??Stars and Satellitesâ??
Lana Del Rey â?? â??Born to Dieâ??
Fun. â?? â??Some Nightsâ?? (getting to point of overplayed annoyance but still catchy)
As the year continues my tastes and moods will change but if you want to know what I have listened to more this year than anything else it would be the Holy Ghost! Album from 2011.

Dan just broke up Handsome Furs, so I wonder if that makes it more or less likely that we'll get another Wolf Parade album. I was lucky enough to see 'em at Sasquatch for their "farewell," but I can't help but think they'll start the beast back up again.

Thanks Phillip. I look forward the albums from Purity Ring and Hot Chip that come out later this summer. I roll with pretty much all genres it just depends on my mood. I just finished listening to Moonface's "Heartbreaking Bravery". I like Moonface but every time I hear it, it makes me want another Wolf Parade album.

Dang, Slyd...I've made my way through quite a few albums on your list and have to say that, for the most part, I'm pretty impressed! The Grimes is pretty good...reminds me of a more upbeat Austra, but I can only take her in small doses before I get sugar overload. The Tanlines was really good...reminded me of a less baritone Islands. It's funny because a review I read described it as "background music," but I definitely didn't get that impression. Policia was good, although it didn't blow me away. Neither did the First Aid Kit, although that's not really my style anyway. I'd already heard the Lana del Rey and honestly can't stand her. Still need to check out the new Jack White (I know, I'm a heathen), Trampled By Turtles and fun albums. Great list, amigo!

Damn...the new Cloud Nothings is a concussion grenade! I'd read reviews where they talked about it being a change of pace and man...they weren't lying! It took until the third track (Fall In) before I heard something identifiable as the "old" Cloud Nothings sound. That being said, I really, really like this album...a whole lot, to be honest. This seems to put Baldi more into a Wavves/Nirvana zone but it's an area that really suits him. I bet these tunes are barnstormers live, too!

I really like that Memoryhouse album! I liked the first one but "The Slideshow Effect" really, in my opinion, showcases the vocals to much greater effect. It's a little thin at times but, overall, I find it quite beautiful. It even kicks up a little momentum, at times, which is a nice change of pace.

I really liked the first two Cloud Nothings albums so I definitely need to spin the new one. Thank goodness for Spotify!

I hate it when you see a band live and they suck. It ruins that band for you but if you can't play live you shouldn't tour. The other way is nice where you see a band that you have never heard of and their show blows you away.

That Cloud Nothings is way better than I thought it would be. That Tanlines album is sweet too.
Cool list.

I really like the new Best Coast. I also completely agree about the new Sleigh Bells although, to be honest, I'm pretty hot and cold on them anyway. I liked the first album but really disliked them live. In fact, their performance at Sasquatch a few years back was one of the single most unpleasant experiences of my entire life.
