UT-Austin Orientation
I have freshman orientation/registration coming up on June 13-15. I'll probably drive in on the 12th with my dad and he plans to leave the following day to leave me to my endeavors (plus he has to go to work on the 14th in Brownsville...we live about 6 hours away). Do you guys know of any relatively CHEAP hotels that are also relatively SAFE and NEAR the campus? Even cooler: do any of you live near enough that would be willing to let me bunk for 2 nights (I won't even shower/urinate/fix my hair/eat your food if you don't want me to waste your resources). I'm totally kidding, though. I don't expect any of you guys to trust me right off the bat, much less fully allow me to barge in on your busy lives. I promise I'd be a delightful house guest and I'd bring tokens of appreciation if you loved me.
ANYWAY. I do, however, need to save money and am at a general loss with where to go! I've been looking online and have found some places.. The Ramamamamamada by Koenig is the best I've seen for about $60/night. I figure you guys may know the city better, though.
Halp.

OK, my friend (she's a Texas Interdisciplinary Plan Specialist with UT Austin) said that there are cheap hotels closer to UT Austin than the Quinta that I mentioned but she can't speak for their safety. She said that the New Student Services page on the UT Austin website has a listing of hotels that they recommend. Good luck.

The La Quinta Inn on East Oltorf and I35 is about 5 miles from campus and you are never far from a Capital Metro or a UT shuttle stop. I have a friend who usually works freshman orientation for UT Austin and I'm waiting to hear back from her to see if there is a hotel that offers a deal for freshmen coming in for orientation. I'll let you know if I hear anything. Good luck.
