Given your from Asheville I would hold off on seeing and camping in the Hill country west of Austin, while nice it has nothing on the Smokies. Recommend kayaking on town lake,The Highball for bowling and drinks, South Congress for people watching and Trailer food and The Greenbelt. Nightlife? You look like a Jackalope kind of girl, that and Red River and the east side have the bars with the best vibe. Just my opinion I could be wrong. I miss Asheville
