Set-up time between bands?

Fri, Sep 11, 2009 at 12:55 PM

Since this is my first year going to the illustrious FFFFest, I thought I'd ask the vets a question (please only answer if you heal sick cats...or even if you don't): what's the set-up time like between acts? Are we talking the standard 10-15 mins like many fests, or are there 30 min gaps later in the day? The 2008 schedule indicated a bit of both, but thought I'd appeal to the roaring masses.

it'll be like 10 minutes between sets at the orange and black stage. maybe a little more at the other stages depending on who's playing

as far as fests go, they can get a little behind sometimes. I'd expect 30 max for all.

In '08, stages 1 and 3 (orange and black, respectively) were actually two stages side-by-side. While a band was playing on one half of the stage, the next band would be setting up on the other half. This worked well, especially for the "more established" acts that had more equipment or more particular ways of having equipment setup. The two smaller stages had bands tearing down and setting up as fast as they could, which was usually a 10-15 minute process between bands (but I did watch J*Davey on stage 2 last year take 30+ minutes to setup, and then they proceeded to just play into the next band's time, which sucked for the next band).

The best thing about it, though, is the orientation of the stages and soundboard levels are done such that if you are listening to a band at any stage, you don't hear the other acts going on (except between songs).

Man if 30 minutes is the max though, that would still be really really fantastic! I remember at Bonnaroo this year waiting up to 45 minutes in between shows. It was pretty crazy.

Agreed. Anything below thirty minutes is pure gravy, as far as I'm concerned.
