Though NYC clubkiller Harry Rodrigues aka Baauer hasn’t been on the scene long, the amount of buzz the 23-year-old has been able to build in such short time is strikingly impressive, going from SoundCloud’s best kept secret to contemporary electronic music’s new poster child seemingly over night. Baauer blew up onto the scene in May with his monstrous release “Harlem Shake”, which was released on Mad Decent’s sub-label Jeffrees. It received a best new track honor from Pitchfork (link), a feature on Fader (link), and mentions on nearly every relevant music publication throughout the world. Only a week or two into its release, the track was being played out by DJ’s across the entire electronic spectrum—from TNGHT, Rustie, and Araabmuzik to Diplo, A-Trak, and Skrillex, to Oneman, Jackmaster, and Skream & Benga. Soon after, he was signed to the leading booking agency AM Only, and began touring ferociously. This past summer, Baauer spent much of his time touring the United States and remixing artists like No Doubt, Nero, and Frosstradamus. In September, he announced and released a 12” white label titled “Dum Dum” on the notorious Scottish future bass label, LuckyMe. The lead title track from the release was premiered on Zane Lowe’s show, and subsequently rinsed by the most notorious BBC names, from Annie Mac to Benji B. Soon there after, Baauer finally made his was to Europe, playing shows all over, from WHP in Manchester, to Rinse FM Birthday Bash in London, to the Social Club in Paris—and even a party in Tel Aviv. Baauer has been around the world and back, and hes not even a year into his career. So what’s next for the young artist? Well for starters, a full, 5-track EP, to be released on LuckyMe this fall, more enormous remixes for artists such a The Prodigy and Purity Ring, and amazing interviews and features in publications across the board (Nylon, Complex, Pitchfork, Fader, DJ Mag, etc..). As for touring, Baauer will join Dillon Francis and Clockwork on the #wetandwreckless National tour, and has a co-headline tour with Just Blaze just after the New Year. This kid is reshaping what it means to be an electronic producer, and in turn spreading his gospel of Crunk across the world.
